The German Frers design of the Hallberg Rassy 42 gives her more modern lines and an improved sailing performance over her predecessors with the quality build and finish you expect from Hallberg Rassy.
Stepping aboard from the sugarscoop transom to the aft deck there is lazarette storage and stainless steel pole mounting for the radar scanner and pushpit seats. The secure feeling centre cockpit houses the wheel binnacle which has controls for engine, anchor winch, autopilot. There are foot controls for the bow thruster. Nav instruments are over the companionway hatch and the whole cockpit is protected from the elements by the fixed screen, sprayhood and bimini. There is good access forward via the side-decks and the mainsail and genoa are both furling for easy shorthanded sailing.
Descending the companionway steps, which have bare teak for good grip and contrast nicely with the varnish work, you immediately notice the quality of the interior joinery and fabrics that Hallberg Rassy are known for. The galley is set to starboard and is of a practical design, being very secure to use whilst underway. Opposite to port at the forward end of the walk thru is the full sized chart table and nav area. The main saloon has ‘L’ shaped seating to port around the saloon table, with a straight settee to starboard which has a pilot berth with lee cloth above. There is excellent stowage throughout as you would expect on a bluewater cruiser of this calibre.
Forward of the saloon is the walk thru to the guest double cabin, a heads/shower compartment is to port with stowage and a washing machine to starboard. The guest cabin has twin or double berths and again has excellent stowage. Aft of the saloon is the walk thru to the owners’ suite with excellent access to the main engine, generator and machinery room and further stowage. The owners’ aft cabin has a double berth to starboard and a large single to port and a huge en-suite heads/shower compartment.
This is a very well maintained yacht in beautiful condition and the Hallberg Rassy 42 is a sought after bluewater liveaboard combining truly luxurious accommodation in an easily handled package with a sparkling sailing performance.
